Way To Go Groundhog!

Posted on February 4, 2011 at 8:42 PM

Well, I really meant for this blogging to be a more frequent event but I also thought I would be announcing new arrivals by now.   We are still awaiting the appearance of the kids, there are 9 does that have some sort of udder filling that should result in many kids on the ground by the end of the month.  I have been staring at these butts and feeling udders daily for the last 2 weeks!

I am still believing that Bamboo (13th)will be the first but Chammy (due the 7th, 12th or 15th) has certainly filled out and could be a contender or possibly since they are bunk mates one will start the other.  It would be wonderful to welcome them into the world all at once - as soon as the 7th would be sweet.

Hot Cocoa, Star, Dora and Snow could be ready to add to the nursery on the 10th,  Dora also has the 13th and then March 12th  as a possible dates, Hot Cocoa could wait till the 17  and then  Coco Channel is looking right on for the 15th with Tressie due the 22nd.  Mayo has a date of the 8th but looks more likely for March 21st then we have Penny possible for March or April and Molly for May.

I have lots of people that have been asking to be notified upon the arrival of the kids and I do promise to make the announcements and email everyone as well as soon as we have some out!  Chammy, Bamboo and Molly are spoken for after kidding, I will probably have to cut another doe or two if I wind up retaining too many does (it is so hard not too but making cuts are hard too)

I have the girls in the shop below the house in breeding pens so I can watch them with cameras and frequent checks and have added photos to show our set up, it is still a work in progress but you get the idea.   I have taken several weeks off from work to greet the kids and give support to my girls, I hate to miss a kidding.

The official groundhog came out on the 2nd and did not see his shadow so that is suppose to mean that winter is pretty much over and spring will be here very shortly!  I am choosing to believe.....
