Welcome to my first blog, I have been reading alot of others and have been enspired enough to start my own! Tonight it is absolutely snowing like a banchie out there and I am so glad I don't have to go into work until later tomorrow so if we get ice it should melt by then (or at least give the road crews a chance to get a handle on the roads)! It also gives me plenty of time to haul nice hot water to all the critters if they don't already have a heated bucket or trough.
The one thing I am not happy about is I don't see a spell check on this application (and I am not a great speller) so bear with me if you see errors in my grammer or spelling.
I am really excited about this new year and the beginning of new arrivals here at Fields of Grace. We have our first freshening due on the 16th of January - Peachtree Farms Bamboo she had adorable buck twins last year "Biscuit and Gravy" I had purchased her bred and was she was one of my first freshenings arriving Feb 28, 2010. She looks like she has a full load and this year Swt Mesquite is the sire so there should be lots of color and lots of babies! I will monitor her udder developement and have another date of Feb 13th if she doesn't look to be ready as I make it a practice to jot down the name of any doe acting odd on the calender (NDGA sends out an awesome calender each year that has the due date of the breeding on the bottom of each day, I love it! ) out in the milking room if I actually "see" them together I put a star down and then I will transfer the names to the appropriate days they would be due. I do wind up with many blanks of ones that didn't get bred but I have never missed it completely if they did! She has a decent little udder started so I am leaning toward the 16th but thanks to blogs I will keep you updated! I have had numerous people contact me about kids and doe availability and have told them I would let them know by email when they come but this blog will make it much easier!
Bamboo will more than likely be available after freshening and I may retain a doe if she has one as I have not been able to retain any does of SWT Mesquite. If you are interested in her or one of her kids you can let me know and I am on the fence of bottle feeding the kids so if you would like a bottle baby let me know asap. Bamboo is friendly doe but not in your face she likes attention and food and could be very friendly in a smaller herd situation.
I am going to end for now and wish every one a Happy and Blessed New Year!
